My Previous Experience with Wine

Welcome to the start of my wine blog for Geography of Wine! I am very excited to be taking this class and look forward to learning more about the world of wine, as I know very little about it.

Growing up, I was surrounded by alcohol (mostly beer) at family gatherings and summer barbecues, but never much at home. My dad isn't much of a drinker at all, but my mom likes a glass of wine every now and then. Watching her open a bottle around dinner time, I have come to recognize some names that appear on bottles like 'Merlot' and 'Cabernet Sauvignon,' but never really new the meaning behind them.

Since becoming of age, I have familiarized myself with a variety of alcoholic beverages. Generally, I prefer a good beer. However, I still haven’t had a huge exposure to wine. I have had glass a couple of times for dinner occasions, but knew nothing of the wine served.

Cheers!
Throughout the semester, I hope to learn more about the variety of wines and grapes. Reading the label on the bottle isn't enough, I want to understand the label on the bottle. I am also excited to adventure into the art of wine tasting and hope to develop a sophisticated palate.

I signed up for Geography of Wine for two reasons: (1) it's my last semester, and I haven't taken a class taught by Professor Boyer; and (2) to quench my thirst for knowledge with wine.
